The Divine Comedy by Contemporary African Artists

An incredible exhibition inspired by Dante's Divine Comedy just opened at the MMK Museum für Moderne Kunst in Frankfurt Am Main (Germany). Curator Simon Njami in cooperation with the MMK is presenting a great selection of Contemporary African Artists working on different media. The works on show are displayed on three different level of the Museum revisiting Hell, Purgatory and Heaven. I am more than pleased to share this exhibition considering my eternal love to Dante's Divine Comedy and interest and passion for Contemporary African Art. "Taking their own widely differing cultural and religious backgrounds as a point of departure, the artists are examining individual thematic sequences of the Divine Comedy". Some of the works are especially commissioned for the exhibition. “Why Dante? Because the Divine Comedy is first and foremost a human comedy. The Venice Golden Lions - The Clock of Christian Marclay!

Today the 4th of June the Jury of the 54th International Art Exhibition of la Biennale di Venezia comprised of Hassan Khan (President, Egypt), Carol Yinghua Lu (China), Letizia Ragaglia (Italy), Christine Marcel (France) and John Waters (USA) has decided to confer the awards as follows: Golden Lion for Best National Participation to Germany: Schlingensief ( Pavilion at the Giardini) Commissioner: Susanne Gaensheimer Golden Lion for the best artist at the ILLUMInations Exhibition to Christian Marclay (United States, 1955; on display at the Corderie, Arsenale) The Clock , 2010 Silver Lion for a promising young artist at the ILLUMInations Exhibition to Haroon Mirza (Great Britain, 1977; on display at the Corderie, Arsenale and at the Central Pavilion, Giardini) The Jury has also decided to assign two Special Mentions : Lithuania Behind the White Curtain Darius Mikšys (Pavilion in town; Scuola S.
